Primary Food

Hello beautiful person!

In today's blog post, we are going to talk about Primary Food! Now, this was a concept I had never heard of until attending IIN. I am very excited to tell you what Primary Food is! Along with Primary Food, I learned about Secondary Food, but I will talk to you about that in a different post! For now, let's get into Primary Food!

You may have read the title of this post and been confused or wondered what in the world Primary Food is. I was confused too when the term get mentioned in my Health Coaching course. So, what is it? Primary Food consists of four main areas. These four areas of "food" in no particular order are:

  • Career

  • Spirituality

  • Physical Activity

  • Relationships

Someone reading this right now is probably thinking to themself that in no way are those a type of food. However, they are, and rightfully so! At this point, there may be someone reading this who it makes sense to, or you're still a little confused. So let's dive into why these get viewed as a type of "food" for us!

You may be wondering how in the world can they be a form of food for us? Though we can't eat our career, physical activity, spirituality, or relationships, they still feed us. Now, what I mean by "feed" in this scenario is how they nourish your soul, mental health, and physical body. Think about it, if you're in a crappy workspace or situation, are you going to be happy? No! Will being unhappy all of the time help you be healthy and full of energy? No. It will deplete your level of energy and will bring you down. Whereas, if you're in a job you love, you'll most likely be some level of excited about going to work because you love what you do! It will give you energy, joy, and much more! So, our Primary Food feeds our mind, body, and our spirit too! Just in ways, our regular foods don't. These four areas nourish us through energy, which is a concept that is hard to grasp and explain. Hopefully, what I have said above helps it make sense.

In conclusion, to wrap it up, the four areas of Primary Food, Relationships, Career, Spirituality, and Physical Activity all together nourish our entire being. Without having these four areas in some level of balance, all the healthy foods cannot and will not make as big of a difference. I hope this made sense to you, and I hope you found it just as interesting as I did when I heard about the concept! I hope you have a great rest of your day and I can't wait to see you in my next post!
