Mental Health: What Can We Do to Support It? - #WellnessWednesday

Hello Magical Person!

I knew I wanted to write something for mental health awareness month, but I wasn't sure what. I am passionate about mental health and know from personal experience how important it is. For anyone who doesn't know, the month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month. During my first year of having this blog, I tried to do a series about some of the differences associated with each of the months. I had been doing it consistently, but I stopped because I was discouraged by how poorly it did on the blog. It, however, is and always will be something I have passion around. But, for now, our focus is on Mental Health Awareness Month this month.

One of the first things I want to mention here is that if you or someone you know deals with mental health differences or struggles, you are NOT ALONE! I know for some struggling with Mental Health differences can feel lonely and isolating. It may feel as if others do not understand where you're coming from. It can feel like others don't know what it is like to deal with what you do. That is normal! And your feelings due to that are one-hundred-percent valid. Some people will be like that. However, there will be other individuals who understand what you're going through and how you feel and will give you the compassion, love, and care you need. The most important person who can provide you with those things is YOU! We have so much power to heal ourselves and to be there for ourselves it isn't funny. The most important relationship we will ever have in life is the one we have with ourselves. Never forget this!

Secondly, a thing I would like to mention is how there is a connection between our gut and brain. This connection is known as the Brain-Gut Connection. I believe this is what it is referred to as. I intend to do a separate blog post on this particular matter. It is fascinating! I loved learning about it when I was in my Health Coaching course! On a different note, there are several things we can do to support our Mental Health and the Mental Health of our loved ones! I intend to briefly mention some things we can do to support our and others' mental health. However, before I begin that, I would like to push the importance of helping yourself before you help others. If you are struggling mentally in some way, it can be hard to help others in similar or different scenarios. So, do not feel bad if you want to help someone, but at that moment don't feel like you can. Heal and help yourself first and then see if you can help that individual or others later. We can't help someone if our cup is empty already or getting close to it. Now that we have that out of the way, let's jump into ways we can support our Mental Health!

Some ways we can help support our Mental Health are, listening to music. You can go on walks in nature. Standing barefoot in nature, or interacting with nature to ground yourself. Meditating is great! I love to meditate when I think to do so because I find it can make a huge difference for me. You can make some tea or a warm beverage. Doing that has been found to help bring a sense of comfort to individuals. Talk to a loved one or friend. Sit in the sun, or there are special lamps that can mimic the sun and sit under that if you're in an area where sunlight can be a little scarce. Especially in the winter! These are just a few ideas for ways we can support our mental health. I could write so many more things, but I will save more for another post on this particular topic.

I hope you found this post useful and interesting in some way. I also hope you give some of these ideas a try and see if they work for you! If you have read this whole post, thank you so much for your support and interest! I hope you are doing well! I can't wait to share about the Brain-Gut Connection soon and other exciting health and wellness-related topics! Until next time, I will see you again soon!

Best wishes and lots of love,

The Inspiring Hummingbird!
